Pepsi Cola bottle, 1940 dated

Quick Overview

1940 production bottle with double dot Pepsi-Cola logo 1940 type body label and 1943 type neck. The bottle is marked on the bottom with Des. Pat. App. For and A40. The A40 stands for the year of productiom, 1940. The 'Design patent applied for' marking puts the bottle in a narrow time span of production as the patent was filed for on February 6, 1940 and granted on April 30, 1940. So less than three months. These design patent applied for marked bottles are rare and hard to find as from May 1940 on the bottles were marked with the patent number (also see last photo of the design patent). The bottle is complete with its cap. To find a Pepsi-Cola wartime bottle with its original paper labels in good condition is becoming increasingly difficult. This is a nice piece for the collection.
