M-1 Helmet with type 10 St Clair liner

M-1 Helmet with type 10 St Clair liner

Quick Overview

Schlueter 'fixed bail' M-1 steel shell with type 10 St Clair low pressure liner. The steel shell has its original 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with flat brass buckle. Typical for a Schlueter steel shell with flat brass buckle there is no heatstamp or S under the rim.
The type 10 St Clair liner features textured OD exterior paint and cotton suspension with steel A washers, early type leather chinstrap with green coated flat lever buckle and large yellow SC stamp in the dome. The leather chinstrap is a bit dry and broken at the backside close to the buckle. It is however original to the helmet and the break is hardly visible when the chinstrap is placed of the rim off the helmet. The liner is complete with its cotton headband and neckband.
What makes thIs helmet special is the white chalk mark 11 on the front of the steel shell. Many photos of the Normandy built up show GI's with similar chalk numbers on their helmets.
This helmet is in lightly used and above average condition. It has been in my collection for a long time but it is time for a new home. View the many photos.

This is a helmet from the M-1Helmet.com collection.
