St Clair liner, camouflaged

St Clair liner, camouflaged

Quick Overview

Low pressure St Clair type six liner. This liner was found in an attic in the US with many other liners in poor condition a long time ago. It features a removable leather chinstrap with green coated steel buckle and cotton suspension with six pairs of double snaps to take the rayon headband. The headband installed is an early type cotton headband with wire buckle. The painted large yellow SC mark is still present in the dome. Of special interest is the handpainted two tone camouflage pattern on the liner. Also interesting are the repairs with steel wire of the cracks. These cracks were once covered with tape after which the liner was repainted. Over time the tape and most of the repaint fell from the liner, exposing the earlier camp pattern again. The liner is not in the greatest condition but the rarity warrants a place in a collection.
The liner is featured along with its twin (which is in lesser shape and also for sale) in my M-1 Helmet book (pages 238-239 of the 2007 Limited Edition and pages 254-255 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition). It has been in my collection for a long time but its time for a new home. This a rare opportunity to obtain a liner with handpainted early pattern camouflage. View the many photos.

This is a helmet from the collection.
