M-1 Helmet with type 5 Inland liner

M-1 Helmet with type 5 Inland liner

Quick Overview

McCord'fixed bail' M-1 steel shell with Inland liner. The steel shell has its original 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with early type cast brass buckle. The heat stamp is 40C. The Inland liner is a rare 'transitional' type. It features smooth exterior paint, cotton suspension with six pairs of snaps to take the rayon headband, steel A washers and a removable leather chinstrap with green coated steel flat lever buckle The headband and neckband are of the cotton type.
The steel A washers of this liner are curious as they have a yellow coating. During the early stages of development various types of coating were tried to see what would work best against oxidation of the steel. This is one of these variations. A section showing the yellow A washers of this liner is presented in my M-1 Helmet book (pages 85 of the 2007 Limited Edition and page 93 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition). A laundry mark was edges in the paint on the front of the liner between the river and the eyelet.
This is an all complete 100% original early production helmet helmet in very good condition. It will make a great addition to a collection. Plus it is featured in a book! It has been in my collection for a long time but its time for a new home. View the many photos.

This is a helmet from the M-1Helmet.com collection.
