M-1 Helmet with type 1 Westinghouse liner

M-1 Helmet with type 1 Westinghouse liner

Quick Overview

McCord'fixed bail' M-1 steel shell with Westinghouse liner. The steel shell has its original 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with raised bar brass buckle. The heat stamp is 54D.
The Westinghouse liner is a rare type 1 that features rayon suspension, rectangular washers and fixed leather chinstrap with square steel slide buckle, production 1942. The headband and neckband are of rayon also.
The pristine condition of this helmet indicates it was never used. The textured finish of the steel shell appears factory fresh. The clip of the long chinstrap is still at its factory setting. There are no traces of wear on the suspenion. The leather chinstrap of the liner was never adjusted and it was never positioned over the brim of the helmet. The chance to find an early production helmet in this superb condition is about zero.
This helmet is featured in my M-1 Helmet book. The steel shell represents McCord production (pages 10-11 of the 2007 Limited Edition and 2010 Schiffer Edition). An additional photo is on page 14 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition. The liner is the opener of the section on rayon suspension (page 52 of the 2007 Limited Edition and page 58 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition). A close up of the chinstrap is also shown (page 61 of the 2007 Limited Edition and page 67 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition).
This all complete, 100% original early production helmet is a true gem in perfect condition. Plus it is featured in a book! It will make a great addition to a collection. This helmet has been in my collection for a long time but its time for a new home. View the many photos.
