M-1 Helmet with St Clair liner, ID-ed

M-1 Helmet with St Clair liner, ID-ed

Quick Overview

McCord 'fixed bail' M-1 steel shell with St Clair low pressure liner. The steel shell has its original 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with brass raised bar buckle. The heat stamp is 499C. The St Clair low pressure liner is a type 8. It is presented in my M-1 Helmet book (pages 162 and 163 of the 2007 Limited Edition and pages 170 and 171 of the 2010 Schiffer Edition). The liner has the yellow SC stamp in the dome and features textured finish, cotton suspension with six pairs of snaps to take the rayon headband and early type leather chinstrap with green coated steel flat lever buckle. The liner is complete with a cotton headband and neckband. The helmet belonged to Donald S. Smith, ASN 16170887, who enlisted on February 7, 1943. Smith marked his helmet with a laundry mark on several places of the suspension. The steel shell has a shallow dent to the backside (indicated on photo 3). It is there but doesn't distract much and certainly doesn't take away from the quality of this helmet.
This helmet is in excellent, all complete and 100% original condition. With the uncommon liner that is featured in a book it will make a great addition to a collection. Plus it is ID-ed which deserves further research. This helmet has been in my collection for a long time but its time for a new home. View the many photos.

This is a helmet from the M-1Helmet.com collection.
