Complete and 100% original M-1 helmet consisting of a McCord 'fixed bail' steel shell & Westinghouse liner.
The McCord steel shell has 11 row weave OD3 chinstraps with raised bar brass buckle. The heatstamp is present but hard to read as it is under the painted name. It has a layer or repaint.
The liner that features brass A washers and cotton suspension. It has a removable leather chinstrap with brass roller buckle. The chinstrap is marked with a red H. Like the steel shell the liner has a layer of repaint.
Of special interest are the spray painted 3rd Army Corps markings on the sides of the steel shell. There are also Techincal Sergeant chevrons on the front which are under the layer of repaint. This is an interesting helmet because it was reissued a couple of times as indicated by repaint and the three names on the inside. One name is written in pencil, the other two are painted of which one was crossed out. The reissue of the helmet also explains why the liner is still very nice as the last soldier probably got a fresh liner.
Original unit marked helmets are hard to find. This is a nice example with a lot of research potential because of the names in it.
This is a helmet from the M-1Helmet.com collection.
